CHAPTER 05: COMMINGLED BITS
This chapter talks about multimedia as an interactive form of media. Multimedia is about increases in power and the dominance of computers. The presence of multimedia changes Marshal Mcluhan's view that the Medium is the message. As we continue to evolve into a digitized world, it is no longer like that. The message can be perceived in many ways. The chapter also talks about how we favor familiar forms of media. And that it takes us a long time before we accept the development of new media forms.
CHAPTER 06: THE BIT BUSINESS
Development in technology is moving at a very fast pace. It is moving fast that even the taxes are based on per minute, per mile or per bit. It is no longer about the number of bits or how fast it is. Bits and digitization is starting to change the nature of media. Just as multimedia will serve as a bridge between technology and the humanities.
CHAPTER 07: WHERE PEOPLE AND BITS MEET
Some people are at times intimidated by the computer. But this shouldn't be. That is why interface should be more similar to human beings. The interface should be developed in a way that it would know who you are and what you need. Its interface should make messaging seem more like actual human-to-human communication. Interactivity and sensory richness are two factors which affect the interface. |

CHAPTER 08: GRAPHICAL PERSONA
Human expressions about graphical ideas are more valuable than the ability of a machine to deliver them into a different kind. Although, as a medium, computer graphics are more dynamic, expressive and interactive. Sketchpad, which was created by Ivan Sutherland is an example of this. Through pen tracking, this allowed users to interact with the computer screen. A pixel, which is the molecular level of graphics, determine the quality of the display. The word pixel, originated from the words picture and element. Jaggies result when there are not enough pixels and a staircase effect is seen.
CHAPTER 09: 20/20 VR
Virtual Reality or VR allows one to feel a sense of being there. It allows one to experience something unreal as something realistic. Jaggies and speed- image lag, affect VR. The result is, VRs are manufactured with as much image resolution. Other topics discussed in this chapter are teleconferencing and holography. Teleconferencing was done through creating talking heads. Holography was created by Dennis Gabor in 1948. Holograms were defined as a collection of all possible views of a scene into a single plane of light modulating patterns. When light is reflected from the plane, a scene is reconstructed in space.
